Culver School Board Gets Breakdown of Referendum Fund Spending

Last year’s Culver school referendum is helping to fund teacher raises, LED lighting installation, and some new academic programs. Last November, voters agreed to let the school district raise property taxes by up to 17 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for an eight-year period. A breakdown of how that money is being used so far, as well as some future plans, was presented during a school board work session Monday.

School Improvement Plans Presented to Oregon-Davis School Board

The Oregon-Davis School Board got an update Monday on school improvement plans. Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says the overall goals are pretty similar to what they’ve been in the past. “Obviously, we want to improve our school achievement with Mathematics and Language Arts and obviously address our attendance,” he says. “At the high school level, obviously, we want to address our graduation rate.”

Oregon-Davis Receives Title IV Grant to Boost STEM Education

Oregon-Davis Schools’ STEM education efforts are getting a boost, thanks to a grant for $51,500. That’s according to Superintendent Dr. Don Harman. “We were one of 82 school districts in the State of Indiana that received a Title IV grant from the state,” says Superintendent Dr. Don Harman, “which will be utilized for professional development to increase our teachers’ instructional capacity in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.”

STEM Teacher Training Grants Available from Indiana Commission for Higher Education

 

Organizations working to help train teachers in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields can apply for a share of nearly $10 million from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The goal of the state’s STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund is to prepare and retain educators in Indiana public schools where there are shortages of STEM teachers.  Continue reading

Marshall County Eligible to Participate in STEM Education Initiative

  
 

All schools in Marshall County are now eligible to participate in the regional STEM Education Initiative announced by Project Lead the Way officials along with the United Way of Marshall County and the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation.

Project Lead The Way is the nation’s leading provider of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. Northern Indiana was selected to become a model region for Project Lead The Way where all K-12 schools, both public and private, in a five-county area, will participate with the opportunity to implement programs in engineering, biomedical science, and computer science.
