Many local Indiana residents have been receiving official-looking text messages to their phone, claiming to be from the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles, or the DMV. Winamac Police Department has announced that these text messages are a scam, and urges community members to not reply and not fall for this scam.

The Starke County Clerk’s Office has received a number of inquiries from concerned citizens about text messages regarding early voting.
Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley stated that one of the texts apparently claims an individual’s early vote has not been recorded as of yet. She said if you receive one of these messages it is important to know that it is absolutely not from the Starke County Clerk’s Office. Continue reading
