STATEWIDE — The Indiana BMV is warning people about a new text‑message scam that’s pretending to be the agency.
The messages include links that look like official state web addresses, but they lead to fake sites designed to mimic the real BMV even generating bogus receipts and confirmation numbers.
The agency says it will never ask anyone to pay fees through a link sent by text, nor does it text about outstanding penalties.
Officials are urging anyone who gets one of these messages to delete it, avoid clicking any links, and report it.
The best way to keep yourself safe from these types of scams is to reach out directly to the official number of the agency claiming to contact you, and ask for confirmation.
