An officer at the Westville Correctional Facility has been arrested on suspicion of trying to traffic drugs. The Indiana Department of Correction says Correctional Officer Dennis Cousins, 27, of Hammond, is accused of trying to bring drugs into the facility when coming on shift Friday. The investigation reportedly turned up what officers suspect to be Suboxone, a prescription drug used to treat people who are dependent on opioids.

A LaPorte woman was arrested Monday, after she allegedly tried to bring suspected synthetic marijuana into the Westville Correctional Facility during visitation. The Indiana Department of Correction says Ashlee Bowman, 27, was taken to the LaPorte County Jail, pending a Level 5 felony charge of trafficking with an offender.

A Kosciusko County woman was arrested for allegedly trying to bring drugs into the Westville Correctional Facility over the weekend. Investigators with the Indiana Department of Correction believe Rita Sellers, 46, of Silver Lake, was attempting to traffic drugs while visiting an offender on Saturday. A two-month investigation into contraband at the LaPorte County Jail has resulted in three arrests. Police with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office say they first got information about possible contraband in September. A search of the cell block housing inmate workers reportedly turned up tobacco, marijuana, and a cell phone.
Indiana State Prison Employee Arrested for Trafficking
An Indiana State Prison employee was arrested after a drug trafficking investigation was completed.
Phyllis Ungerank, a nurse with Corizon Medical, was arrested for trying to traffic marijuana and for possessing marijuana inside the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. A check-point officer reportedly found Ungerank trying to take a package of marijuana inside the jail with her on Sunday, March 18th.
She is currently in the LaPorte County Jail. Trafficking of marijuana carries a sentence of up to eight years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
