With trick-or-treating coming up, police in LaPorte County teamed up Wednesday for a compliance check on the county’s sex offenders. Of the 102 people registered as sexually violent predators or offenders against children, three of them were found to be non-complaint, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

LaPorte County Man Arrested on Warrant in Alabama
A man wanted out of LaPorte County was found and captured by the U.S. Marshals Service in Birmingham, Ala. on Tuesday. Maurice Ward, 28, was reportedly in the company of a 15-year-old girl reported missing from Detroit.
The warrant out of LaPorte County was for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, a Class C felony. Ward was also wanted by the Indiana Department of Corrections Parole Board for a parole violation.
He had been previously convicted of Criminal Confinement and was identified as a sexually violent predator and was required to register as a sex offender on a quarterly basis. He failed to do so when he was recently living in Michigan City and a warrant was issued.
LaPorte Man Arrested on Charges after a July 19 Fatality Accident
A LaPorte man was arrested on a warrant yesterday in South Bend after he was reportedly involved in an accident that killed one person and seriously injured two children in LaPorte County.
The South Bend Police Department and the U.S. Marshals service notified the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department that 35-year-old John R. Mikle had been arrested.
