To help fund Veteran support programs throughout Northern Indiana, NIPSCO is awarding 31 local Veteran organizations with donations totaling approximately $125,000. Still Time to Register for 9/11 Heroes Run in Culver
The Town of Culver will be honoring the memory of victims of the World Trade Center attacks, fallen heroes and their families with a 9/11 Heroes 5K Run and 1 mile fun run/walk on Saturday, September 16. In the meanwhile, event coordinators and volunteers have been lining the course with American flags.
Walkers and runners of all different ages and abilities are asked to come out to the Culver Academy Naval Building this Saturday to show support for veterans, their families and first responders. Freedom Riders Honor Veterans, Raise Money

Sen. Donnelly Care Package Looks to Increase Mental Health Services

During a conference call with reporters Wednesday afternoon, Donnelly said the “Care Package” legislation – which is part of the broader National Defense Authorization Act – aims to increase access to healthcare services provided through the Department of Defense and community healthcare providers.

Congressman Joe Donnelly Talks about his Focus on Veterans on this Veteran’s Day
Congressman Joe Donnelly works with Veterans Affairs and on this Veteran’s Day, he tells us what his focus is for our Veterans.
“My focus has been on trying to make sure in the District that we’ve been having sufficient Veteran oriented activities throughout the week,” said Donnelly. “When you look at it, our Veterans are the ones who gave us our freedom, who gave us our country and we’re extraordinarily indebted to them.”
World War II and Korean Veterans Can Register for Honor Flight
Last year, two Starke County World War II veterans, Joe Smrt and Harvey Hammerlund, were flown to Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial by a veteran’s service organization called “Honor Flight”.
John Jordan, of Honor Flight, was asked if there will be an opportunity for additional World War II veterans to make the trip.
