Firefighters from several fire departments battled a structure fire in the Koontz Lake area Tuesday morning.
Koontz Lake Fire Chief Andy Lawrence said they were called to a residence in the 900 E. block of 700 N. just after 10 a.m. CT. Due to a lack of manpower, firefighters from several departments were dispatched to the scene to assist with the single-wide modular home fire.
Lawrence said nobody was home at the time of the fire. One firefighter suffered an injury and was evaluated by Starke County EMS, but refused transport.
A fire can destroy a huge part of your home and its hard to recover from this, however, with the help of fire clean up you can remove the debris.
The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to help determine the cause and origin of the fire.
The Koontz Lake Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department, Knox-Center Township Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, Walkerton Fire Department, Polk Township Fire Department, North Liberty Fire Department, and Starke County EMS.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal has deemed the cause of the fire at Red Hots Bar in Walkerton as undetermined.
An official with the State Fire Marshal’s office told WKVI news that investigators were at the scene three different days to collect evidence and to search through the rubble, but there was too much damage to make a definite determination as to how the fire started.
Semi Truck Catches Fire In Walkerton
The Walkerton Fire Department is investigating a vehicle fire that occurred yesterday afternoon in the area of Roosevelt and Michigan Streets. Police say a semi truck had caught fire for an unknown reason, but no injuries have been reported. The incident remains under investigation.
Three Fire Departments Battle House Fire in Koontz Lake
Three fire departments responded to a house fire in the 8100 block on State Road 23 in Koontz Lake Thursday night at approximately 7:30 p.m. CT.
The Koontz Lake, Hamlet and Walkerton Fire Departments were called to the Frye residence and Koontz Lake Fire Chief, Randy Collins, told WKVI’s Anita Goodan that a fire had started in the 2nd story of the home. The three occupants of the home, their pets and the firefighters were not injured. The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office has been called into investigate the cause of the fire. Collins said the home was a total loss.
Starke County EMS assisted at the scene.
