“Boring,” “empty,” and “old” were three of the words that frequently came to mind when people were asked to think about Downtown Winamac. National Main Street Center Senior Program Officer and Director of Coordinating Program Services Kathy La Plante shared the results of an online survey the center recently conducted, during a public input session Thursday night.

Indiana Main Street Representatives to Visit Winamac in December
Winamac Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger informed town council members about an upcoming event during their meeting Monday night.
She explained, “Indiana Main Street is going to be visiting. If anyone is able to attend, can you let me know? They would really love to see local involvement, especially with the county officials and town officials.”
She said officials will be in town for a two-day workshop on Thursday, December 6th and Friday, December 7th. Continue reading
Wander Our Winamac Meeting Tonight, New Members Sought
Winamac residents can learn more about efforts to revitalize the downtown area and boost the town’s economy. Wander Our Winamac is holding its first meeting of the year tonight. As an officially-recognized Main Street organization, the group focuses on economic vitality and revitalization, urban design and beautification, and events and promotions.
There’s Still Time to Sign Up for Some Local Holiday Decoration Contests
One perk to the sun setting sooner around this time of year is having more time to appreciate all the decorations and lights that people put up in their yards and on their houses. A few communities will be hosting decoration contests during the month of December to decipher whose homes best capture the holiday spirit.
In Starke County, the city of Knox is hosting a holiday decorating contest. The judging will take place on Wednesday, December 13th from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Participants should be sure to have their lights turned on during this time. Third prize will be $25, second prize is $50 and the first prize winner will receive $100. Continue reading
