Winamac Town Council Approves Multiple Ordinances Related to Clerk-Treasurer Duties

Multiple ordinances were up for consideration during Monday night’s Winamac Town Council meeting.

One of the ordinances was permitting adjustment to be made to water and sewer bills due to undetected water leaks. Another ordinance establishes policies and procedures for declaring bad credit uncollectable and the last ordinance approved credit adjustments to be made due to clerical or read errors. Winamac Town Council Amends Holiday Schedule for Town Employees

Some changes were made to the holiday schedule for town employees at Monday night’s Winamac Town Council meeting.

Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger explained that typically, town employees work half days on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. However, since Christmas falls on a Tuesday this year, Berger asked the council to consider giving employees the whole day off on Monday, December 24th in exchange for working a full day on Monday, December 31st. Winamac Town Council Revisits Request to Amend Golf Cart Policy

A request to amend the Winamac golf cart policy was revisited by Town Council members when they met Monday night.

Council President Tom Murray noted that when resident Tony Calabrese came before the members during their first meeting in July, they said they would take his recommendation under consideration. Calabrese asked the council to consider adding utility vehicles, such as “Kubotas”, to the vehicles allowed on town roads.

Since they haven’t met since then, President Murray said they should discuss it during the special session to reach a consensus before their next official meeting. Continue reading

Ordinance to Regulate Public Nuisances on Private Property Addressed at Winamac Town Council Meeting

The ordinance book for the Town of Winamac has been updated and council members considered a quote for the upgrades submitted by the company American Legal Publishing during their meeting on Monday.

Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger said the company updated the book to include ordinances spanning from July 16th, 2016 through December 31st, 2017. The quote provided by American Legal was for $1,985. Members voted unanimously to approve the quote.

Additionally, Winamac’s Town Council members are anticipated to consider an ordinance pertaining to public nuisances on private property in the near future. Continue reading

Winamac Police Officer Takes Course to Become a Certified Firearms Instructor

Winamac’s Police Department will soon have an officer certified in firearms training once Officer Tyler Campbell completes his training.

A Monday’s Winamac Town Council meeting, Town Marshal Mike Buchanan shared that Campbell is attending a week-long firearms class. He said Campbell’s certification will assist the Winamac PD with future training. Continue reading
