Winamac Park Board Gets to Work on Five-Year Plan

Work is now underway to develop a five-year plan for Winamac’s park and recreation facilities. Katie Bierrum, who’s putting the comprehensive plan together as part of her coursework at Purdue University, discussed the plan with the Winamac Park Board Thursday. As part of the process, she’s gathering information about the park facilities, and is also asking board members what direction they want to see the facilities take in the future. Continue reading

Winamac Council Approves Additional Payment to Resolve Tree Dispute

The Winamac Town Council has taken action to resolve a dispute with a contractor hired to remove ash trees from the Town Park. Last week, the council voted to withhold $1,650 of the town’s $20,000 payment to TD’s Tree Service. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo had reported that the firm cut down some trees that the town planned to remove itself, while four other ash trees were left standing. Continue reading

The Town of Winamac is exploring its options when it comes to the removal of ash trees from the Town Park. One option proposed to the town council this week by Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo was to drop the trees and then allow the public to cut them up and remove the wood in exchange for a fee. This is similar to the method used at the Tippecanoe River State Park last month. Partial Flooding Remains a Problem in Winamac Town Park

winamactownparkOn account of the Winamac Town Park’s proximity to the Tippecanoe river and the sporadic storms that have continuously spotted the summer, the Town of Winamac has been dealing with flooding in the back of the park for weeks now. This year the Pulaski County Fair had to implement an adjusted schedule due to flooding issues, the same thing had to happen two years ago as well. Continue reading

Pulaski County Fair Still Scheduled at 4-H Fairgrounds

 
 

The Pulaski County Fair will take place next week at the fairgrounds in Winamac. They are located at the back of the town park, which is still closed due to Tippecanoe River flooding. Purdue Extension Pulaski County Director Natalie Federer says Saturday’s achievement recognition and fashion revue will be moved to the Winamac Nazarene Church, and Sunday’s Miss Pulaski County pageant will take place at Winamac Community High School. Walking Trail at Winamac Park Closed Today

The walking trail at the Winamac Town Park will be closed today.

Park Superintendent Rick Dilts stated that crews will be resealing the asphalt for preventative maintenance measures.

He added that the sealant will take approximately 24 hours to adhere properly and foot traffic may resume activity on Wednesday. If that deadline changes, he will notify us to help spread the word.

Flooding in Pulaski County Not as Harsh as Predicted

The flooding situation in Pulaski County may not be as serious as previously thought.

Pulaski County Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Hoover said the National Weather Service has lowered expectations of flooding of the Tippecanoe River in the Ora and Winamac areas. Moderate flooding is forecast in Ora, but the river will not crest as high as predicted.

Winamac Town Park Open; Fairgrounds Still Closed

Following the closure of the Winamac Town Park this past weekend due to flooding, Park Manager Rick Dilts explained that the park is once again open but the fairgrounds remain closed. Dilts said this weekend’s rain did not cause any more flooding but it did slow down the rate at which the park has been drying. The gates are now open, however, and park crews are trying to work around the water to get the park back in good shape.

Winamac Town Park to Remain Closed This Weekend

The Winamac Town Park will be closed for the rest of the weekend following this week’s storms that flooded the area. Park Manager Rick Dilts told WKVI that the gates will be closed in front of the park on June 8 and 9, and all events that had been planned to take place in the park have been canceled. He said, hopefully, the park will be open on Monday; of course, that all depends on how flooded the area is by then.

Winamac Town Park Closed While Flooding Remains an Issue

 
 
Flooding remains an issue in Pulaski County.

Minor flooding is occurring in the Ora area and some residences have been affected.

The Winamac Town Park is closed while river waters have spilled into the park. Park Superintendent Rick Dilts says water remains on the roads in the lowest part of the park, which is located by the baseball diamonds. The ticket booth for the power show is about halfway underwater and the 4-H buildings in the back of the park are reportedly suffering flooding issues. Dilts indicated that there won’t be many tree branches or other debris to pick up and not a lot of damage is predicted.
