Continue readingThe Winamac Town Park’s “swinging bridge” could get decorative lighting along with some other upgrades, in honor of its upcoming centennial. The bridge was dedicated on July 4, 1923. Now, Greg and Brenda Henry are spearheading the effort to celebrate that history. “I think that between now and the Fourth of July of 2023, if we could maybe put something together and rededicate it, spruce it up, do some repairs, whatever needs to be done to it,” Greg told the Winamac Park Board last week. “The people that use that bridge, it’s endless. I mean I can say, I don’t know of any other landmark in Winamac that has more meaning than the swinging bridge for this town.”
Upgrades to the Winamac Town Park’s restrooms and toddler playground may get some financial support from this year’s round of Land and Water Conservation Fund grants. Last year, the town’s park board applied for $200,000 for its swimming pool rebuilding project. It wasn’t selected, but officials with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources say it would have a good chance this year, according to park board member Pat Bawcum. The problem is that the town has decided not to pursue the project for the time-being, due to concerns that money wouldn’t be available to operate the pool if it’s built.
The Winamac Pool Committee continues to raise money for the town’s swimming pool rebuilding project, but confusion remains about how exactly the project will proceed. A fish fry fundraiser is taking place this evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Winamac VFW. The need for private fundraising has increased in recent weeks, after the Town of Winamac pulled its official support.

Local groups are planning fundraisers to help pay for annual Fourth of July fireworks celebrations.
The Winamac VFW and the Winamac Kiwanis Club are teaming up to raise money for the Fourth of July display at the Winamac Town Park. A fish fry fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 6th from 4:00-7:30 p.m. ET at the Winamac VFW. Marita Grisel, President of the Winamac Kiwanis Club, says that the VFW has returned to their prior supplier for the larger fish filets. The dinner is $8.00 which includes fish, baked beans and coleslaw. All the money raised will help defray the rising cost of the fireworks.
