Robins Spotted in the Kankakee Valley

If you’re like us, you’re sick of winter weather. But Punxsutawney Phil made us feel better the other day when he didn’t see his shadow on Groundhog Day. That supposedly means that spring is right around the corner.

Ted Hayes has another sign of spring weather.

“We had a call Monday that a resident had spotted a Robin,” reported Ted.  “You know the American Robin is the symbol of spring, and many people in our area keep an eye out for the sighting of the first Robin. So on January 31st, the first Robin was spotted.”

“It’s also the state bird of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Connecticut.”

“I can think of only two Robin songs, ‘When the Red Red Robin comes Bob Bob Bobbin’ along’, and ‘Rockin’ Robin’.”

“I’m sure Ed Hasnerl has done a program on the Robin, but if he hasn’t, shame on you, Ed.”

M.J. Zembala and her family reported seeing Robins on Thursday at their home in Railroad Township. Her son, Alex, took pictures and M.J. sent them to share. Enjoy!
