IU Health La Porte Hospital would like to remind drivers to watch La Porte County roads for closures and cyclists on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, during the La Porte Hospital Foundation’s 11th Annual Tour de La Porte bike, run, and walk event to benefit local cancer patients.
The tour includes a number of running and walking events throughout the morning on Saturday, including a half-marathon 21K chip-timed competitive run as well as a 10K run, 5K run, and 5K walk. All events will begin and end at Soldiers Memorial Park La Porte, and consequently, temporary road closures are necessary around the area to ensure the safety of participants and residents.
Roads will be blocked by a moving barricade that will open up to traffic once the last participant has passed. Police and course monitors will be present to direct traffic, but residents living around the course will be permitted to enter and exit the route during slow periods of the race. Officials encourage motorists to use caution when approaching intersections.
Tentative road opening times are as follows: Waverly and Orr Lake roads will be closed at 8:45 a.m. CT, Garden Street at 9 a.m., North Goldring and West Small roads at 9:15 a.m., Goldring Road and Weller Avenue at 9:30 a.m., West 150 North at 9:45 a.m., North 500 West at 10 a.m., Small Road at 10:45 a.m., Lake Shore Drive at 11 a.m., and at 11:15 a.m., the streets bordering Stone Lake Beach will be opened.
