Knox, Plymouth and John Glenn marching bands will be participating in the 40th annual ISSMA Marching Band competition season beginning this Saturday, Sept. 29.
One hundred seventy-six high school bands will compete with over 16,000 students in the District competition. Winners will advance to the Regional competition on Oct. 13. The top ten scoring bands from each northern and southern Regional contests will move to the Semi-State level and then to the marching band finals on Nov. 3 in Indianapolis. The state competition will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Knox Redskin Brigade has performed at several competitions already this season. The band recently participated in a doubleheader at Kokomo High School’s “Tournament of Champions” and Maconaquah High School’s “Sounds of September.” Director Craige Phipps said the band finished fourth in the morning show and were second in individual visual at Kokomo. In the evening show, the band was fifth and placed second in the individual music and individual visual captions. Two weeks ago, the band performed in the Crimson Marching Band Invitational at Goshen High School. The Brigade finished third out of 12 in their class and took second in the visual caption.
Good luck to all bands competing for the chance to play in the state finals.
