Knox Marching Band One of Four Local Schools Heading to ISSMA Semi-State Competition

Four local high school marching bands will be heading down to Indianapolis tomorrow for the Indiana State School Music Association Open Class Semi-State Marching Band Festival. Students from Bremen, John Glenn, Knox and Plymouth will join 80 other bands from around the state competing to be chosen as one of the 10 bands who will represent their class at the 45th Annual Indiana State Marching Band Finals.

As the sole band representing Starke County, the Knox Band Boosters are asking community members and business owners to put up signs or decorate their windows today to show support for these students. Booster Sandra Redden said the marching band members sacrificed every Saturday since the start of the school year, not to mention band camp during the summer.

She said, in all they have dedicated more than 200 hours of practice to their show entitled Pi 3.14. Friends and family as well as faculty and former band members are encouraged to come out and line Redskin Trail to see the band members off and wish them luck at their performance tomorrow. Knox, Plymouth, John Glenn March To 40th Annual ISSMA Competition

Knox, Plymouth and John Glenn marching bands will be participating in the 40th annual ISSMA Marching Band competition season beginning this Saturday, Sept. 29.

One hundred seventy-six high school bands will compete with over 16,000 students in the District competition. Winners will advance to the Regional competition on Oct. 13. The top ten scoring bands from each northern and southern Regional contests will move to the Semi-State level and then to the marching band finals on Nov. 3 in Indianapolis. The state competition will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium.

ISSMA Marching Band Contests Begin Saturday

The 39th Annual Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) marching band season begins with District contests at seven sites Saturday, October 1st.

More than 16,000 students in 168 high schools will participate.

The Regionals are October 15th at four sites, and 10 bands representing four classes will then be selected for the State Finals on October 29th at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Discussion Held Concerning Next Step for North Judson-San Pierre Marching Band

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board did not make a decision concerning the future of the marching band program at its meeting this week.

Superintendent Lynn Johnson told WKVI that she gathered information on cost and number of students in other marching bands and presented that information to the Board. Several community members, parents and students attended the meeting and voiced their opinions and concerns about the marching band. The Board hopes to work with the students and the band department to keep the program alive in the future. Future meetings will entail planning and restructuring the marching band program to make it a sustainable program.

North Judson-San Pierre School Board to Discuss the Future of the Marching Band Program

A discussion of the marching band program is on the agenda for tonight’s North Judson-San Pierre School board meeting. The numbers have dropped to 14 which is not comparable to other schools the size of North Judson-San Pierre.

Superintendent Lynn Johnson told WKVI News yesterday that no decision has been made as to what to do with the program. She and the School Board looks forward to any positive input parents and the community have on this issue.
