The Knox Community School Board members recognized the Knox High School Envirothon team during the Spotlight on Success portion of their meeting Monday night.
The team had gone to the state competition on April 30 and placed 13th out of 17 teams. Coaches Laurie Simmons and Marge Wood told the board they were proud of the effort of the students and competed well at Washington High School.
The members of the team had to present a plan for a certain topic and this year’s topic challenged members to present plans for range land in Montana, specifically a cattle ranch. They researched wildlife, aquatics, soil, forestry, and current issues.
Each of the students reported their experiences with the board and they all commented out much more they learned because of the ability to use hands-on applications in their projects.
The board commended the coaches and Benjamin Darda, Austin Heise, Colton Skidmore, Nikole Scheib, and Julia Markovitz on their efforts throughout the year and were pleased to learn that the underclassmen will be returning to the club next year.
