A man who had heroin in his possession at the time of his arrest was sentenced in Starke Circuit Court Thursday morning.
Allen Moore, 34 of Knox, admitted to Judge Kim Hall that he did possess a Schedule I Controlled Substance, heroin, when he was arrested on April 4 of this year. At first, he tried to deny that heroin was the controlled substance in his possession, but Judge Hall asked him a series of questions and he admitted that it was heroin in his possession.
During the sentencing hearing, he admitted to Judge Hall that he was enrolled in a treatment program at the Salvation Army in South Bend in this case and voluntarily walked out of the program. He then stated that he is tired of the way he’s living his life and wants it to change.
Judge Hall accepted his plea agreement and sentenced him to 24 months in the Indiana Department of Corrections with six months suspended to be served on probation. The remainder of his sentence will be served on home detention with electronic monitoring through Starke County Community Corrections. He was recommended to participate in programs to help him change his life around.
