NIPSCO and all Indiana electric and gas utilities do not disconnect service to LIHEAP customers who are behind on their bills during the winter heating season which begins Dec. 1 and ends March 15.
The colder temperatures in January and February caused higher heating bills. According to NIPSCO, bills were approximately $30 more in those two months.
Compared to last winter, about 15% more customers have received LIHEAP assistance and the average amount of assistance funds provided is up seven percent.
