The Director of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation gave the county council an update on the shell building in Plymouth.

Jerry Chavez explained that construction on the building began last year but activity ceased as winter settled in.

“There are some items that still need to be completed but for the most part it’s at a status where we won’t see anymore work this coming winter. We’re doing what we can in terms of marketing it to prospective clients that may have an interest in expanding to Marshall County and setting up shop in Plymouth’s backyard,” said Chavez.

Chavez said the building is unique in the way that it can accommodate any business or industry.

“The shell building, as it sits today, we have four walls and one of those walls is removable. The space that you see off of Commerce and Pioneer is 45,000 square feet. It’s expandable by three times so if you expand it to full capability you’re looking at 135,000 square feet of space. We don’t have concrete floors. That gives us the flexibility to market that building to a whole variety of different types of users.”

He added that four prospective companies have toured the building.

“We’ve been very, very fortunate to engage in some special marketing that that generated some interest.”

Chavez commented that the shell building project has brought together some great partnerships that have been instrumental in moving forward economic development in Marshall County.
