Knox High School’s 112 senior candidates for graduation will complete their high school careers in services at the Weinberg Gymnasium, Friday, June 5 at 7 p.m. Principal Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff also reported to the Knox School Board Monday that seniors will receive their earned honors in a Friday morning program, the 22nd, at the High School gymnasium. The public is invited to the 8:15 a.m. activity.
Nearly $11,000 has been raised to purchase new special playground equipment to be placed in the south playground of the elementary school. Jenny Fletcher and Shelly Kemble, who spearheaded the fund raising drive, presented a detailed report of the available funds and answered questions from the board. The equipment is specially designed for youngsters with physical disabilities to have safe play. Ms. Fletcher asked that a fence be moved to accommodate a 3-bay swing set.
The board approved the request.
Superintendent A.J. Gappa reported that the first day of classes for the 2015-2016 school year is Tuesday, Aug. 4th. The starting times for all schools will remain as they are now. The starting date was advanced due to the adoption of an alternative schedule.
Gappa also reported all 38 buses passed a State Police Safety inspection conducted May 15.
