Starke County students who receive either free or reduced lunch during the school year have a chance to receive a backpack full of free supplies tonight or tomorrow at the North Judson United Methodist Church fellowship hall.
The annual pack-a-backpack event put on by Kids Closet Ministry provides all the necessary back-to-school essentials in one place.Parents are required to fill out some simple paper work and then they receive a backpack that is filled with the supplies that their child specifically needs.
Founder and director Linda Lewandowki explained how they ensure that all children get what they’ll need for the coming school year,“We look through the different school lists for each grade level and so we go through that list for that child and we fill their backpack with what they need. I think it’s very important for children to go to school with all the right supplies they need to learn and to grow in school.”
Lewandowski said that this year that in addition to the supplies, there will also be a table set up with clothes available. Kids Closet Ministry will be in the fellowship hall of the United Methodist Church in North Judson from 5 until 7 pm today and tomorrow. Individuals interested in making donations to the organization can do so in the drop-box posted in front of the church year-round.
