In order to cut down on paper costs the West Central School Board utilized chrome books during their last meeting. The school has just recently started using technology more often. Last year was the first year the school went one to one, meaning they provided chrome books to students fourth grade through twelfth grade and elementary school students in first, second and third grade. According to
Superintendent Don Street the state has allowed school boards to determine that technology devices be used for textbooks in lieu of paper copies; “We do have material that is online that our students do use those one to one devices as a text book. So we, our school board, approved that those items could be used as a text book.”
This decision reduces the amount of money parents have to spend on textbook rental fees. A $15 insurance fee is charged when technology devices are provided to every student. Students who receive either free or reduced lunch are exempt to the charge.
