The Knox Planning Commission will conduct a hearing this evening on a zoning request for a parcel of property in the Knox Industrial Park. Traffic Control Specialists wants to build a new facility on 16 acres of land at the corner of 250 East and 50 South/Pacific Avenue. The land is currently zoned residential and must be rezoned to Mechanical/M1 in order to establish an economic revitalization area at the corner. The city council will consider that request next week.
Planning commission president Jeff Berg says 26 notices have been mailed to people in the vicinity. Tonight’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at city hall.
TSC currently has 65 employees, most of whom are local. They specialize in work zone safety and are a leading provider of signs and service throughout northern Indiana. Weaver says they’ve outgrown their current building on 300 East between White Flyer and the railroad tracks. Owners Tracey, Brian and Barry Triska considered moving the business to Valparaiso or LaPorte but have opted to stay in Starke County if the tax incentives to do so are approved.
