The new venue for the annual Knox fireworks display will be put to the test next week. Mayor Dennis Estok told the city council Tuesday evening Mad Bomber will be at Wythogan Park on Wednesday, May 4th at dusk to set off a few practice shells and test visibility. Members of the Knox Fire Department will be standing by to assist.
The annual fireworks show is being staged in the city this year rather than at the Starke County Airport. It’s scheduled for Saturday, July 2nd and will feature a parade and afternoon of activities in the park leading up to the big display.
The city is hosting a port-a-pit chicken fireworks fundraiser on Saturday, May 7th at the Knox Fire Station on South Heaton Street. Estok also announced plans for a city-sponsored car show and cruise night on Saturday, May 28th, with proceeds going toward the fireworks. That event will also feature music and games and will take place in the park. Plans are to have the splash pad open by then as well.
