Knox Mayor Dennis Estok has some sweat equity in the splash pad project at Wythogan Park. He spent Wednesday moving dirt at the site in preparation for additional concrete work. Estok says the target opening date is Saturday, May 28th, but they’re cutting it close.
He says the weather has caused delays. Estok also had to work around the schedules of the volunteer electricians, plumbers, concrete contractors and others who offered to help make his vision a reality.
Adding the amenity was one of Estok’s campaign promises. The city council blessed the project in January and allocated the money.
A tentative ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 28th at 11 a.m. Estok says he will know next week if that’s still doable.
