A morning house fire near Wanatah led to extensive smoke and fire damage in the structure’s attic.
The incident was reported around 6:30 a.m. on Monday in the 14-thousand block of South County Roady 1050 West. A passerby noticed smoke coming from inside the home prompting multiple fire departments to arrive on scene.
Due to a car in the driveway, responders believed a resident may have been inside. No one was found inside the home following a search. It took more than one hour to get the flames under control.
The origin of the fire seems to be the attic, according to investigators. The roof was damaged by fire with the entire home sustaining heavy smoke damage.
An investigation is ongoing, but officials say it does not appear suspicious at this time. No injuries were reported.
