Hamlet Council Approves 2017 Salary Ordinance, Year-End Budget Transfers

Hamlet Town HallHamlet employees will not receive a pay increase in 2017. No changes were noted in the 2017 salary ordinance approved by the town council Wednesday.

Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts is set to get just over $32,000. Town Marshal Clint Norem will receive $42,000, while Water and Street Superintendent Fred Rowe will make slightly less than that. Also included in the 2017 budget is $36,000 for a full-time police deputy. However, Norem has previously said he will stick with part-time help for the time-being.

Council members also approved a 2017 water department budget of just under $123,000 and a sewer budget of nearly $218,000.

Looking back at 2016, Council President Dave Kesvormas said the town has done a good job staying on budget. “Hats off to all of the department heads and their departments,” he said. “Krista’s office, Fred and Kevin, Clint and his predecessors in the police department did a good job.”

The council approved four budget transfers to close out 2016.
