West Central School Board Approves High Ability Grant Application

West Central School CorporationThe West Central School Board has decided to proceed with applying for a High Ability Grant from the Indiana Department of Education. The yearly application had to be delayed by a month, as the corporation waited for final figures to be released by the department. The High Ability Grant provides funds for classroom equipment and materials, as well as specialized training for teachers.

Superintendent Don Street says the school board last week also approved the distribution of State Performance Grant funds, should they be received. He adds that this would be the third year for the State Performance Grant.

Also during Thursday’s meeting, board members voted to balance out the corporation’s accounts, as 2016 comes to an end. “The board of trustees approved the necessary transfers, so all accounts have a zero or positive balance for the year of 2016,” Street explains. “So they give the approval to encumber any money needed in 2016 for the 2017 budget.”

School boards typically pass such resolutions at the end of each calendar year.
