The condition of the Winamac Town Park’s restroom facilities has the town’s park board seeking additional input from residents. The topic was first brought up during a public input session back in September. Residents have noted that the restrooms in the back of the park, in particular, could use some upgrades.
However, during last week’s park board meeting, board member Brad Zellers noted that the organizers of the Pulaski County 4-H Fair and Northern Indiana Power from the Past are responsible for the maintenance of the buildings in that section of the park. Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo questioned why the town should be concerned with them. “Why is that on the town?” he asked. “Those restroom facilities are used two times a year. That’s it.”
Zellers and fellow board member Jon Chapman agreed that the restrooms in the front of the park, which see far more use, should be the town’s first priority.
However, board member Pat Bawcum said the number of people using the back of the park has grown significantly over the past 10 years. “I have to say, I live across the river from all of this going on, and in the summertime, on weekends, hundreds of people are back there,” she said. “And then the volleyball has gone crazy, which is a wonderful thing because they’re using it, but you’ve got hundreds of people there on certain nights, and they’re using that end of the park a lot.”
Park Board President Courtney Poor tasked the board’s advisory council with getting more input from residents about the condition of the restrooms and the need for facilities in the back of the park.
