The newest amenity in Wythogan Park is on schedule to open in May. An official ribbon cutting ceremony for the city performance stage will take place Saturday, May 27th at 2:30 p.m.
Jim Post will christen the stage with an inaugural performance that afternoon at 3 p.m., followed by Half Track at 5:30 p.m.
The stage opening coincides with the second annual City of Knox Car and Bike Show in the park. It gets underway at 2 p.m.
The band stage is located between the entrance to the park and the splash pad, which opened last spring. Mayor Dennis Estok says that project came together quickly thanks to donations of materials and labor from Ozinga Ready Mix and others. The city received similar support for the band stage project from Danny Kajer of Kajer construction.
Estok notes people are enthusiastic about the improvements and want to see the city succeed. Don Carlson has been working this week to add stone to the block walls to match the façade of the park entrance.
The city also plans to add restrooms and a concession stand between the band stage and the splash pad for use during concerts and other community events.
