Michigan City Police Release Names of Officers Involved in Off-Duty Shooting

The Michigan City Police Department has released the names of the officers involved in an off-duty shooting in a hospital parking lot on Saturday. Officer Charles Henderson, a 20-year veteran of the department, reportedly shot Thomas J. Walsh III, 46, of Michigan City four times, according to Indiana State Police.

That was after Walsh allegedly pointed a handgun at Sergeant Ken Havlin, a 30-year veteran of the Michigan City Police Department. Henderson then reportedly fired the shots out of fear for Havlin’s safety.

The two off-duty officers were working security at Franciscan Health. They were called to a pickup truck in the hospital parking lot, after Walsh reportedly refused to leave the vehicle to seek medical assistance.

State police say Walsh remains in critical condition.
