Another free movie in the park event will be held tonight in North Judson. “Boss Baby” will be shown at 8:00 p.m. at Norwayne Field.
The Starke County Young Professionals Group is organizing the monthly movie series. Member Jessica Craig says the group has secured sponsors for the whole summer and possibly into October. “When we first started the project, we were informed that we were covered underneath a blanket license through a library or a school, but because we’re showing them outdoors, that’s not the case,” she explains. “So we’ve had to get people to sponsor the licensing.” Tonight’s movie will be sponsored by Kersting’s Cycle Center.
Craig adds that it’s taken several organizations to make the movies in the park possible. “NIPSCO, along with Economic Development – they’re the ones that purchased the screen for us to use. It’s a 144-inch screen,” she says. “And then the commissioners office has allowed us to use the sound system that they have, and then Economic Development, this time, is letting us use their projector. So it’s kind of been a coming together of a lot of groups, which is pretty great for us.”
Eventually, the Starke County Young Professionals Group hopes to get its own equipment for the events. To raise the money, they will host a screening of “The Shallows” at Bass Lake Beach on June 24, as a fundraiser. Beyond that, the group has discussed expanding the free movie series to Hamlet, while the City of Knox is also planning its own.
Other than the outdoor movies, Craig says the Starke County Young Professionals Group is also working on a few other projects, such as a Sweetest Day dance in the fall and a fat tire bike race in the winter.
She says the group is still looking for new members, and people of all ages are welcome.
