Changes made to the Hearing Aid Assistance Program of Indiana means more funding for hearing aids for eligible children.
Beginning today, children ages three and older will be eligible for up to $2,000 per hearing aid, including bone anchored hearing aids, through a participating audiologist. The new requirements increase the age range and an additional $500 in funding.
According to the Indiana State Department of Health, most private insurance carriers do not cover hearing aids, which can cost as much as $6,000 a pair. The Indiana General Assembly approved funding to create the Hearing Aid Assistance Program of Indiana in 2016.
As of April 1, 214 hearing aids have been provided to children through the program with 52 audiologists participating.
Children ages three to 13 receive priority for hearing aids. Families can apply for funding every three years.
