Eleven Teens Hospitalized, After LaPorte County Drug Incident

Eleven teenagers were taken to hospitals, after apparently eating gummy bears containing the narcotic drug THC. LaPorte County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 5200 block of North County Road 325 West late Thursday night.

When they got there, officers found a 19-year-old man along the road. He told police that he had taken an unknown type of drug that had made him ill, and he wanted to go to the emergency room. He added that other people had taken the drug, as well. He said he wasn’t familiar with the area, but he believed they were in a nearby home.

When police were able to locate it, they found 10 other teenagers who had also apparently taken the drug. Police say all of them were complaining of rapid heart rate, leg pain, and blurred vision. Many of them were also experiencing hallucinations, according to police.

Officers believe they’d each ingested half a gummy bear, supposedly containing THC. Police say nine of them were 18 years old and two were 19. Six were male and five were female. All were from Fishers, Indiana. Three ambulances took the teenagers to Franciscan St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City and LaPorte Hospital.

Police say two of them were tested and were found to have high levels of THC. Investigators don’t know where the narcotic-infused gummy bears came from, but they say they’re pursuing leads.
