The North Judson Town Council will meet in special session this morning.
An executive session is set for 7 a.m. with a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. to sign a contract for asbestos removal to proceed with the demolition of 205 and 207 Lane Street. The council members are also expected to amend the salary ordinance.

Lawyers with cases in Pulaski County can now file many court documents electronically. Electronic filing is now an option for over 40 types of civil and criminal cases in Pulaski Circuit and Superior Courts. It will become mandatory on Friday, September 22.
The Indiana State Department of Health is looking into an increase in pertussis, or whooping cough, cases.
Whooping cough was confirmed in 136 cases in the first half of the year in Indiana. The state recorded only 66 cases during the same time period in 2016. The number of cases is expected to continue to rise.
The Town of Hamlet plans to extend the Starke Street sidewalk, but not everyone likes the idea. In a letter to the town council, residents Fred and Charlene Jensen said the town should focus on fixing streets, and they feel the curbs and sidewalk would be a waste of money.
The members of the Knox Board of Public Works received an update on the rehabilitation of the property at 6 N. Pearl Street.
Knox Director of Building, Planning and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost said the owner, Lucia Valladares, was in a car accident and has not been able to complete any work. Pfost reported that she is looking for a vehicle capable of towing a trailer in order to aid her work on the dilapidated structure.
Renovation plans were previously approved by the board. Pfost said an engineer’s report on the foundation found that only a few repairs need to be made in order to move forward with work. Continue reading
The Culver Town Council will again discuss the proposal for the Culver Movie Theater to include as a town project in the Stellar Communities Designation Program.
The Culver Redevelopment Commission met on Monday, July 17 to consider a proposal from SRKM Architects, but ultimately rejected the project by a 3-2 vote.
The Culver Community Schools Corporation has formally agreed to work with the town on a proposed Stellar Communities project. The school board approved a resolution Monday expressing its support for Cavalier Park.
The next addition to Wythogan Park in Knox may be delayed a bit. A restroom and concession stand is planned for the area between the splash pad and performance stage.
School officials at the West Central School Corporation have announced the time and dates to register for the 2017-2018 school year. West Central registration will be Monday, July 31st from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday. August 1st from 3p.m. to 7 p.m. ET.
Along with many schools in the listening area, West Central is offering students the opportunity to register online. Those wishing to register online can do so at www.wcsc.k12.in.us. Online registration will open on Monday, July 31st at 6 a.m. and close on Tuesday, August 1st at midnight.

Unmowed grass at Highland Cemetery has led to a complaint to the North Judson Town Council. During last week’s meeting, one resident said the condition of the cemetery was a disgrace and asked council members to fix the problem.
Upgrades to the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox should begin by the end of this summer. A new heating and cooling system, as well as a new roof are set to be installed.
The Culver Town Council held a public hearing Tuesday night to hear comments on the appropriation of funds for a new ambulance.
Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim explained that the new ambulance is arriving soon but the money wasn’t earmarked in the budget for the replacement of an older truck. Heim said the older ambulance was overdue for replacement. It will be sold with the proceeds to be split between the town and Union Township.

The property was set for demolition, but Lucia Valladares purchased it in a tax sale and provided the board of works with plans for extensive renovations at a previous meeting. The members approved her plans, pending a positive report from the structural engineer concerning the building’s foundation.
Starke and Pulaski counties’ June unemployment rates are lower than last year’s, but the number of people employed has actually dropped slightly.
The 2017 Bass Lake Festival is this weekend. It gets underway this Friday with the Miss Bass Lake, Junior Miss Bass Lake, and 
the Little Miss/Mister Bass Lake pageants. Saturday’s activities include a 5K run/walk, sailboat races, and a fireworks display over Bass Lake.
