Plea and Sentencing Hearing Set for Jason Cooke

A plea and sentencing hearing has been set in Starke Circuit Court in the case of Jason Cooke. Cooke, of Plymouth, is accused of hitting Sescoe Wireman and stealing several items from him in an incident at a home in the 100 block of East 500 South in Knox on Oct. 7, 2015. Court documents state that multiple strikes to Wireman’s head led to his death.

Cooke was initially charged with murder, robbery and aggravated battery in the case, but Prosecutor Nicholas Bourff says the murder charge was dropped in February of this year. He said the forensic pathologist determined that she could not connect the alleged battery with his death. The robbery and aggravated battery charges remain.

A status hearing in this case was heard in Starke Circuit Court on Thursday afternoon. Cooke will return for a plea and sentencing hearing on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m.
