An area high school basketball coach was arrested on misdemeanor charges Tuesday night.
According to the incident report filed by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, police stopped a car driven by a juvenile near the intersection of Monticello Street and Adams Street in Winamac around 9:41 p.m. ET. Police reportedly determined that the vehicle’s registration was expired. Officers called the towing company to tow the car from the scene.
The juvenile’s parent arrived at the scene to pick up the driver. Police say Kyle Johnson, 43, of Winamac, arrived at the traffic stop location and began arguing with police about the action of towing the car from the scene. Johnson reportedly told officers repeatedly that they were not going to tow the car from the scene. According to police, Johnson was told several times to leave the scene and he did not comply.
Johnson was taken into custody and booked in the Pulaski County Jail on preliminary misdemeanor charges of resisting law enforcement and refusing to leave an emergency incident area. He has since posted bond.
Johnson is the head basketball coach at Winamac High School.
