Culver Town Council Approves Year-End Fund Transfers, Encumbrances

The Culver Town Council members took action Tuesday night to make sure budget funds will be balanced at the end of the year.

A resolution to transfer funds within departments and department funds was unanimously approved.

An ordinance to encumber funds for 2017 was also considered. A lot of the money to be encumbered is for paving.

Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim explained that a lot of projects were approved this year, but the claim won’t come until after the first of the year. With the approval of the ordinance, that money will be encumbered to pay for the items in 2018. Also, some pay for EMS and police department employees who were not able to take holiday, personal or vacation time will be paid with funds encumbered from 2017. That number is unknown as there is still this week for pay and not all of the requests have been submitted. She said it will be taken care of after the first of the month.

The first reading of the ordinance was approved. The rules were suspended and all three readings were approved. The total amount of money to be encumbered is $136,365.
