Knox Street Department Ready for Winter Weather

The Knox City Street Department is ready for winter. Street Superintendent Jeff Borg told the Knox Board of Public Works members last week that the city has plenty of salt to start of the winter season due to last year’s mild winter.

“We’ve got straight salt in the shed to be mixed up yet from last year so we’re doing real good,” said Borg. “On our purchase agreement, we did drop our tonnage. Hopefully everything is good. We’ve got an extension going on the salt shed. Normally we had to get the salt in, put a load outside, and then sit there and mix and put it in. This way, hopefully, we’ll have enough room that we can actually have it dumped inside, it’ll be under cover, and we can mix it right in the shed. We’ll have more storage also.”

Borg did stress that the city can get up to 120 percent more salt than what their agreement allows with Morton.
