Oregon-Davis School Board Adopts Expanded Background Check Policy

Oregon-Davis is the latest area school corporation to expand its background check policy, as required by state law.

Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says the update was approved by the school board Monday. “We have to do a background check for all our current school employees, and so our board adopted a policy that we will be completing an expanded criminal background check on all of our employees within the next five years,” he says. “What the law allows us to do is we will be doing a criminal background check on 20 percent of our employees every year through the next five years.” He says the school corporation is starting that process this week.

The updated background check policy was one of several policy updates approved by the school board this week, at the recommendation of policy consultant NEOLA.
