The Knox Community School Board members will hear public comments on the proposed renovation and improvements to corporation buildings.
The school board members are considering replacing the roof and 17 rooftop heating and cooling units on top of the Knox High School. The project would also include upgrading all exterior lighting and all of the lighting inside the gym at the three schools. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart said previously that the installation of LED lighting would pay for itself over the next few years in energy savings.
Other proposed items include replacing the high school’s exterior doors, installing a new outdoor electronic message board at the high school, replacing the scoreboard at the Weinberg Gym, buying large touch-screen displays for classrooms, and installing new carpeting in areas within the three schools and administrative offices.
The school board is anticipating costs to stay under $5 million so property tax levels will remain the same.
In addition to the public hearing, the board members expect to approve necessary paperwork for the proposed projects. Dr. Reichhart is also recommending the purchase of HP Chrome Books for student use in the next school year.
The Knox Community School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. CT tonight in the administrative office in the Knox Community Elementary School building.
