Knox Community School Board members recognized High School Senior Elizabeth “Libby” McEntee who was recently chosen as the 2018 Starke County Community Foundation Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.
McEntee will receive a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to an Indiana college or university of her choice and a $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.
McEntee told the board members that she’s not quite sure which college she will attend. She is majoring in neurology.
“I hope to stay on the path to medical school and a neurologist or a neurobiologist and study the brain,” said McEntee. “I’m really interested in the medical field. I’m really excited that I was able to have this scholarship. It will allow me to further my education past just a four-year degree. I’m happy. I hope to come back to the school and our community and help out as the community has helped me out.”
Elizabeth is the daughter of Alan and Connie McEntee and is a member of Speech Team, and she was a state qualifier in discussion. She also participates in National Honor Society, Science Club, and varsity softball. She tutors elementary school students and is a Freshman Mentor.
The board was pleased to hear that three students from Knox High School were of the top five finalists for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.
