North Judson Police Department to Convert Boardroom into Training Area

North Judson Police Officers will be tacking a renovation project soon, following a decision made by town council members on Monday.

At the first town council meeting of the year, Town Marshal Kelly Fisher requested permission to convert a scarcely used boardroom in the police department into a training area. She said that many of the officers have instructor qualifications so they could open the space up to host training classes for other local officers and to bring in some money for the department.

Council Members thought it was a good idea, but they wanted to ensure that the individuals who use the room for meetings wouldn’t feel ousted. They asked her to consult the Park Board members since they’re the main group that uses the space.

After speaking with the park board members, Marshal Fisher said they were okay with the idea. They said they only utilize the space in the winter time and conduct most of their meetings in the park once weather conditions improve. She said they would be issued a key so they could utilize the room whenever they should need it. She added that the key would only grant access to the boardroom and not the rest of the police station.

As far as renovations go, Fisher proposed adding some new tables and chairs, painting the area and redoing the flooring since it is more than 20 years old. She said the cost of the project will be minimal since many officers have construction experience and they can take care of the labor themselves.
