Open Seats Available on Knox Planning Commission, Violations to Vehicle Ordinance Discussed

At Tuesday night’s Knox Planning Commission meeting, members briefly mentioned the open positions that remain on the commission.

There are two openings, according to the City of Knox website. Planning Administrator Kenny Pfost stated that any interested individuals should contact the Mayor’s Office at 574-772-4553.

Additionally, Knox Planning Administrator Pfost alerted planning commission members of some vehicles within the city limits that are presenting a bit of an issue.

The members explained that city’s vehicle ordinance states that any car sitting on a property must have up-to-date plates. However, the cars that Pfost brought to the attention of the commission are racecars. Since they are not street legal, they technically do not need to be plated.

The owners also told Pfost that they received an exemption from a previous city official. Everyone seemed to agree that the apparent exemption would not be recognized since the vehicles are violating an existing ordinance.

One member brought up the fact that city rules also state that cars without plates must be out of sight. Members agreed that the owners should be asked to put up a privacy fence or store the cars in some other way in order to alleviate this issue.
