Sign Replacement at Henry F. Schricker House Discussed During Knox Planning Commission Meeting

While discussing new business during Tuesday night’s Knox Planning Commission meeting, Planning Administrator Kenny Pfost alerted members of a request he received about the Henry F. Schricker House.

Pfost said a representative asked him about installing a sign in the front yard of the Henry F. Schricker House on Main Street. Under the current sign ordinance, they would be limited to a 2×2 sign because it is in a residential area.

They’re looking to replace their current sign which was reported to be a 4×8 sign that is placed up against the building. Commission President Greg Matt stated that they were permitted to install a sign of that size through a variance.

Matt explained that the old sign says ‘Starke County Historical Museum’ and since the museum has been moved, they’re looking to replace it. He said the installation of a new sign would also require a variance.

He and other commission members advised Pfost to tell the representative that they’ll need to go before the Board of Zoning Appeals and submit a request to them. It was also mentioned that a fee of $200 is charged for appeals to the BZA. Pfost explained that covers the cost of publishing a notice and notifying the surrounding property owners of the request.
