Mayor Dennis Estok alerted Knox City Council members of some changes that will be made to procedures for Spring Clean-Up Days this year.
During Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Mayor Estok said there were some issues with last year’s event.
“Basically we are changing the format on that,” Estok explained, “last year, we went through a record-high 8 dumpsters at a cost of four thousand some dollars. Probably fifty or sixty percent of the stuff coming in was from out of town residents.”
Estok explained that the Spring Clean-Up Days are held for residents of the City of Knox to have a chance to clean up their yards and get rid of any excess junk that is cluttering up their homes.
In order to better regulate the event, Estok said it will be held at the sewage plant and there will be someone at the gate checking each vehicle that comes through. Individuals will be required to bring their ID and a utility bill in order to show they’re citizens of Knox.
Estok said by having a check-in procedure to ensure that people are actually residents, he expects to reduce the number of dumpsters that will be required for the event to half of what it was last year.
The Knox Spring Clean-Up Days will be held on Saturday, May 19th and Sunday, May 20th. The mayor added that a list of items that won’t be permitted will be sent out in the future since they have had issues in the past with certain items being thrown out that they are unable to get rid of with the rest of the refuse.
