Knox Man Sentenced to Home Detention, Probation in Hearing

A Knox man was sentenced per the terms of a plea agreement in a hearing in Starke Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

Frank Matkovich admitted to Judge Kim Hall that he was driving under the influence of alcohol while his license was forfeited for life in the area of McGill and Washington Streets in Knox on July 18, 2017. He said a police officer recognized him behind the wheel of his vehicle knowing that he had a suspended driver’s license.

A plea agreement between Matkovich, his attorney Leslie Baker and the prosecutor’s office was accepted by Judge Hall. On a charge of operating a vehicle after lifetime forfeiture of a license, Matkovich was sentenced to four years in the Indiana Department of Corrections with two years of that sentence to be served on home detention through Starke County Community Corrections and two years to be served on probation. On a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, he was sentenced to two months in the Starke County Justice Center with none of that sentence suspended. Those two sentences would run currently, or at the same time. Matkovich will also participate in any programs suggested by the officers of Starke County Community Corrections or probation.
