A teenager is dead after a single-vehicle crash in rural LaPorte County. LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Deputies say they were sent to the 2600 block of North County Road 700 East just before 6:00 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators believe Aidan Short, 17, of rural Mill Creek was driving a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country south on 700 East, when minivan left the west side of the roadway for an unknown reason. It then hit a stump, went airborne, and then crashed into some trees, according to police.

Short was reportedly unresponsive when Kankakee Township firefighters arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office. Police say Short had been wearing a seat belt, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The New Carlisle Police Department, Kankakee Township Volunteer Fire Department, LaPorte County Coroner’s Office, and LaPorte County EMS assisted the LaPorte County Sheriff Office.
