LaPorte Resident Dies in Rollover Crash on State Road 39

A single-vehicle rollover crash has claimed the life of a LaPorte resident. LaPorte County Police say it happened around 8:15 Saturday night on State Road 39 near the ramps to the Indiana Toll Road. Deputies believe a 2005 Ford SUV was heading north on State Road 39, when it left the east side of the roadway, rolled several times, became upright, and traveled back onto 39, before eventually coming to a stop.

Indiana Conservation Officers have released the name of the man who drowned in Hudson Lake Sunday morning. Howard Fetterer, 71, of New Carlisle was recovered from eight feet of water about 100 feet from shore, after a one-hour search. Continue reading

Michigan City Man Dies after He Darts in Front of Car

 
 

A Michigan City man was pronounced dead at the scene of a car/pedestrian accident in the 9800 North block of U.S. Highway 12 early this morning.

According to an investigation by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, Richard Schmuhl, 83, was attempting to cross the street when he suddenly darted out in front of an oncoming passenger car. Schmuhl was struck by the driver’s side of the car. Officers found him in the highway and he was pronounced dead by an official with the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office.

LaPorte Police Launch Death Investigation

 
 

The LaPorte County Coroner’s Office and LaPorte Police Department are investigating the deaths of a 20-year-old man and 17-year-old girl at a home in the 500 Block of East Lincolnway. The man is identified as Ethan Day of LaPorte. The girl was from Dyer. Her name hasn’t been released since she was a minor at the time of her death. Day’s father found them at 6:41 p.m. Tuesday evening and called the police. No information has been released about the cause of death. According to a news release from the LaPorte Police Department, “There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe that there is any ongoing danger to the public as a whole.”

 

LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department Investigates Inmate Death

LaPorte County Sheriff’ Michael Mollenhauer has announced the death of an in-custody inmate at the LaPorte County Security Complex. The death occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 19th, 2011.

No details are being released pending further investigation of the incident by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and the LaPorte County Coroner’s Office and until notification is made to the individual’s next of kin.
