Hamlet’s Starke Street rehabilitation project continues. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts says the road remains closed, as paving contractor Walsh & Kelly rebuilds it from Plymouth Street north to U.S. 30. Pitts says she doesn’t have a specific timeline for when the work will be done.
Once the paving work is complete, a new sidewalk will be installed along the west side of the street by Covenant Concrete. The Starke Street improvement project will cost over $223,000, not including the cost of preliminary culvert work. Nearly $161,000 will come from a Community Crossings grant from the state.
